Part 8: JIM CROW
This part explores Jim Crow laws which forced segregation and maintained many of the inequities of slavery.
&1: Jim Crow
The end of slavery did not bring an end to racism and oppressive policies and actions against People of Color. Across the southern United States, laws were passed that forced segregation and maintained oppression of former slaves and People of Color. Even though the Supreme Court ruled in favor of “separate but equal” facilities, things were not equal. Segregation was deemed legal under U. S. law and empowered states to continue passing and enforcing Jim Crow laws.
